Hagerstown is a city in Washington County, Maryland, United States. The population was 36,687 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Washington County. It is a city on the edge of the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area.

It is known as the "Hub City," due to the large number of roads and other transit that cross the city. These include but are not limited to Interstate 81, Interstate 70, U.S. Route 11, U.S. Route 40, and the Western Maryland Railroad. It is home to the Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum as well. The Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum is dedicated to promoting a public understanding of the railroad history and railroad related activites in the general area of Hagerstown, Maryland through restroration, preservation, entertainment and education.

Hagerstown was founded in 1762 by Jonathan Hager, a volunteer Captain of Scouts during the French and Indian War. Hager has been called the "Father of Washington County" due to his having laid the groundwork for its separation from Frederick County in 1776 and the subsequent creation of Hagerstown as County Seat.

One of the most recognizeable symbols of the city of Hagerstown is the weathervane known as "Little Heiskell." Named after the German tinsmith who crafted it in 1796, it stood atop the Market House and City Hall for a combined 166 years. It was moved from the Market House to City Hall in 1824.

Doleman Black History Museum - Located at 540 Locust Street. This museum contains books, artifacts, and pictures of the rich African American History in Washington County.

Golf - The Greens at Hamilton Run is a public course with nine holes, par 34 - 2,550 yards. This course features only one water hazard, one par 5, and three par 3s. The Greens at Hamilton Run is a short tight course, making it easy to walk.

Several towns in Washington County have parks as well. The most well known of these is Hagerstown's 50-acre City Park. Nestled in the south end of Hagerstown, the City Park has lakes complete with ducks, swans and geese.
